Chae et al. 2000 in preparation:
Orientation of Emerging Bipoles in a Filament Channel
- I adresse to the question of whether
the chirality in filaments is due to surface flow or of sub-surface origin.
- I focus on the orientation of emerging bipoles. My first concern is
whether small emerging bipoles in filament channels are systematically oriented
or not.
- This needs to be determined since emerging bipoles are important sources
of the minority polarity fluxes in the vicinity of a filament channel.
- Priest et al. (1996) predicts that they should be sytematically orientated
due to sub-surface differential rotation.
- My preliminary analysis indicates that emerging bipoles are systematically oriented.
This shows a typical magnetogram.
This is the distribution of orientation from several days.
This is from the day 1999 October 12 which is just before the filament eruption.
This is from other days.
